COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The first Boeing 717 aircraft landed at the Columbus airport Friday, marking an expansion in Delta’s service options for travelers.
Delta will use the Boeing 717 on some Friday and Saturday midday flights between Columbus and Atlanta. The first aircraft arrived Friday.
The larger aircraft offers more seats, Wi-Fi connectivity and a better overall travel experience for passengers, according to the airport.
Airport leaders said the service coming to Columbus is a direct result of the community choosing to fly local.
“This plane is about 25 years old and it probably flew for an airline called Airtran before Delta and when Delta acquired Airtran in partnership with Southwest, they got these Boeing 717’s and it’s slightly bigger than the CRJ jets that have been coming to Columbus,” said Jackson Hedges, a fan of aviation.
Airport leaders said if the community supports the flights during the summer period, it could lead to more options connecting through Atlanta.
