COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The two candidates in Columbus’ mayoral runoff election cast their votes during early voting as the race heads toward Tuesday’s election day.
Isaiah Hugley, a former longtime city manager, voted alongside his wife, State Representative and Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley. His campaign invited media to observe.
Hugley was the leading vote-getter in last month’s election but did not receive enough votes to avoid a runoff.
“I was able to receive more than 7,500 votes, more than the closest opponent with six people, other candidates in the race,” Hugley said. “I’m overwhelmed that the people of Columbus, Georgia, they’ve already said yes to this campaign.”
His opponent, current Columbus City Councilwoman Joanne Cogle, cast her vote earlier this week.

“It’s a highly contested race and I look forward to meeting everybody at the polls and seeing the outcome on Tuesday,” Cogle said. “I ask for your vote and your support.”
The mayoral race is among the local elections happening alongside statewide runoffs, including the race for governor.
An interview with both Hugley and Cogle will air Sunday at noon on On the Record. The program is also available to stream on Roku and the WTVM News app.
