COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Safe Kids Columbus will host a free summer safety event June 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital.

Free child safety gear and food will be provided for registered attendees.

“Learn about safety topics like water, motor vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian, fire, animal and more. Parent participation in a brief safety presentation is required,” Safe Kids Columbus Director Pam Fair said. “Emergency Department visits and the number of trauma cases increase during the summer months, and our goal is to reduce summer recreational injuries.”

Children can explore public safety equipment and first responder vehicles outside. Inside the hospital, children and parents can visit safety stations.

Attendees will receive a safety station passport at the on-site registration station to pick one item of child safety gear while supplies and sizes last. Items include a life jacket, booster seat, bike helmet or home safety kit. A child must be present.

Tri-City Veterans of Columbus will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs while supplies last. A child must be present and show a completed safety station passport.
