COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Democrats won two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission Tuesday, defeating Republican incumbents by wide margins in what marks a significant shift for the utility regulatory board.
In District 2, Democrat Alicia Johnson defeated incumbent Republican Tim Echols with more than 62% of the vote to his 38%, according to unofficial results with nearly 100% of votes counted.
Democrat Peter Hubbard won the District 3 race, taking down incumbent Republican Fitz Johnson with more than 62% of the vote to Johnson’s 37%.
The two Democratic wins put party members on the Public Service Commission board, which was previously controlled entirely by Republicans. The commission regulates various utility services in Georgia and the prices consumers pay for them.
