COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - One local organization hosted an annual luncheon today in hopes to raise enough for homeless students in Muscogee County.

Saturday, September 27, the F.A.I.T.H organization hosted its annual First Lady of Columbus Charity Luncheon.

F.A.I.T.H stands for Feeding, Accepting, Inspiring, the Hurting and Saturday’s goal was to raise funds for homeless students in the Muscogee County School District

“Once we show someone hurting love, it changes things. It changes lives. it gives kids hope when we show them so much love,” said CEO of F.A.I.T.H, Patricia Grant.

Founded in 2018 by James and Patricia Grant, the organization was made to empower and encourage those going through hardship. According to Patricia, 11,000 Muscogee County students are homeless.

This year the organization raised and granted 15,000 dollars towards those students during the luncheon.

“Just to know the community is standing behind our students and pouring into our students some of this funding will go towards scholarships. so its gonna give students an opportunity and a leg up and helping them carry on into the future,” said Grant.

Celebrating 6 years of the First Lady of Columbus charity event, the theme was “Always Choose Love.” James Grant explains the vision of creating an event after the first lady of Columbus, Karron Henderson.

“She shows what it takes to do something for someone else to support him and the community without any focus on herself because the truth is she’s a person that likes to be in the shadows and work hard, ” said James.

“It takes a village. Just be kind help someone its not easy not everyone feels comfortable asking for help so find the kindness, stop the hate, and show some love, ”said First Lady of Columbus, Karron Henderson.
