ATLANTA, Ga. (WTVM) – The Georgia Department of Transportation has named Andrew Heath as its new deputy commissioner, effective June 1.
Heath now oversees more than half of the agency’s 4,000 employees and manages operations for the 10th largest transportation network in the country, with an annual budget topping $4 billion.

Heath joined the department in 2008 as a transportation planner and helped launch the Transportation Investment Act program. He later served as state traffic engineer and was named deputy chief engineer in 2021, overseeing engineering, operations, and intermodal divisions including transit, rail, and aviation.

Heath holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Auburn University and is a licensed professional engineer in Georgia. He was a finalist for the AASHTO Vanguard Award in 2018 and named Georgia Transportation Professional of the Year in 2022.
Heath succeeds Bradford Saxon, who retired at the end of May.
