AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - Discount grocery chain ALDI has announced the opening date for its first location in Auburn.

The store, located at 1617 South College Street, will begin welcoming customers on Jan. 9 at 8:45 a.m., a spokesperson for the chain said. The retailer is in the Tiger Crossing shopping center, using part of the space previously occupied by Winn-Dixie, which ALDI acquired earlier this year.

As part of the store-opening celebration, the spokesperson said the first 100 customers will receive a gift bag filled with a sampling of ALDI-exclusive products and a gift card. Shoppers will have the chance to enter a sweepstakes for a $500 ALDI gift card throughout the opening weekend.
