OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - The East Alabama Community Foundation hosted its first Community Trust Grants Presentation on Thursday to support local organizations and initiatives in East Alabama.
The event was held at the Opelika Public Library. The foundation presented donations to 12 nonprofits- totaling $30,525.21.
Here are the following organizations that received a grant and what officials say the money will be used for:
Education Grants
- Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Foundation- $2,250
- to pay for the ASL instructors/interpreters and supplies for the AIDB Opelika Regional Center Summer ASL Bootcamp.
- Created with a Purpose- $2,200
- to provide funding to educate, encourage, and expose the teens to countless opportunities and careers to inspire them to want to dream about a better future.
- The D.A.C. Way- $2,775
- to fund the teach for 12 months in Loachapoka, provide Spanish language material for 25 students in Loachapoka as part of the After-School Tutoring and Reading Club.
- LaFayette Main Street- $3,000
- to complete a mural in Downtown LaFayette.
- Redeeming Grace Ministries- $2,660
- to support the costs of curriculum supplies to train and equip people to live a life of everlasting recovery.
- Southern Preparatory Academy- $2,515.21
- to support the modernization and repair of Southern Preparatory Academy’s existing Ranger Trail, a vital component of our JROTC Program.
Social Service Grant

- Elizabeth’s Place- $1,625
- to provide funds for a new computer, cell phones, minute cards and legal fees to be used by the women receiving services for domestic abuse.
- Mercy Medical Ministries- $3,000
- to provide patient transportation for appointments and provide home blood pressure monitors.
- The Nourish Foundation- $3,000
- to provide weekly fresh product box deliveries to food insecure families in Lee County.
- Quiet Storm Outreach Group- $1,500
- to support the costs of outreach to panhandlers in Lee and Tallapoosa Counties. To provide them with basic needs items such as non-perishable food, clothing, blankets, socks, shoes, hygiene and toiletry items.
- Rape Counselors of East Alabama- $3000
- to help them respond to victims of sexual violence in a trauma-informed way, providing victims with clothing and other necessary resources when leaving the hospital, and continuing to accompany survivors to medical, legal, and other related services needed as a result of their assault, as well as providing crisis counseling and long-term counseling.
- Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center- $3,000
- to provide financial assistance to provide direct services to alleged victims of child abuse and/or assault.
The East Alabama and Central Alabama Community Foundations recently merged to expand their coverage area. They cover Eastern Alabama counties down to wiregrass counties near Dothan.
