MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVM) - Bryson “Cheese Curd” McGlynn, a 12-year-old culinary prodigy from Opelika, has achieved a remarkable honor: he was named “Chef for the Day” Friday by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.

This recognition follows Bryson’s recent victory as the winner of season 9 on the popular Fox TV show “MasterChef Junior.”

Ivey personally invited Bryson to the Governor’s Mansion, where the young chef seized the opportunity to create a special lunch menu. As the first course was served, the group gathered to pray over the meal and Gov. Ivey officially declared Bryson “Chef for the Day” in the state of Alabama.

The governor’s office said Bryson’s three-course meal, which included an Auburn-inspired peanut butter pie, received high praise from Ivey and her guests.

She expressed confidence in Bryson’s promising future and gifted him a challenge coin.

“It was truly my honor to have a lunch made by Bryson McGlynn, an Opelika celebrity,” said Gov. Ivey. “Not only did he whip up an excellent meal, he lit up the room with his infectious personality really highlighting what it means to be an Alabamian. Alabamians have so much to offer the world, and Bryson certainly showed us that today. He is going places!”
