Phenix City Schools to continue free meal policy for 2024-2025

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - Phenix City Schools announced Thursday it will continue the policy of providing free meals to all students for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The school district will maintain its participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a component of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. Under CEP, schools and school districts in economically disadvantaged areas can waive school meal applications and offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students. This initiative aims to eliminate barriers to accessing healthy meals and promote student well-being.

District officials say no further action is required from parents or guardians. Students will automatically receive free meals without the need for individual applications.

Parents or guardians who need more information should contact the district’s child nutrition program director, Michelle Lian, at 334-592-1702 or mlian@pcboe.net.

The first day of classes for students in the Phenix City School District is set for August 7.
