COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Harris County School District’s award-winning Mobile Learning Lab is wrapping up its summer schedule and gearing up for the many students it will support throughout the upcoming school year.

“We bring learning to the community. We make it accessible and simple and easy for students to come to us and we do the rest,” said Shelia Baker, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services for the Harris County School District.

The Mobile Learning Lab is available to students in Harris County who need tutoring, access to the internet for career-related opportunities, or want to keep up with their reading and work habits. Equipped with Wi-Fi internet access, laptops, and books, students can access applications they are using in their classrooms to continually promote college and career readiness. The Mobile Learning Lab is a great resource for students entering the school year, as many experience learning losses that occur throughout the few months of summer.

“We want to make sure that our students - first of all, have a love for learning, because the Mobile Learning Lab is such a vibrant blue color that when you see it, it looks like a book on wheels,” said Baker. “We also want to be more approachable and more accessible to our community to show that the school district is doing our best to continue to educate our students inside and outside of the school buildings.”

The Mobile Learning Lab started in 2019 and has since earned the Harris County School District’s Board of Education Leading-Edge Award for the innovative “Teaching and Learning Resources” initiatives from the Georgia School Boards Association.
