COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - In collaboration with the Department of Human Resources and Transportation, the Harris County School District invites anyone interested in the career path to the events happening this month. Biscuits with Bus Drivers is a way for individuals to have their questions answered, meet bus driver representatives, and enjoy coffee and biscuits.
“This is one unique way that we try to get people interested in driving busses - we get them here for breakfast and while they’re having a biscuit and some coffee and some juice, we tell them all about the benefits of being a Harris County bus driver,” said Harris County School District Assistant Super Intendant, Justin Finney.
The kick-off event was held at the Harris County School District’s Brown Transportation Building in Hamilton, Georgia from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. this morning. If you were unable to attend, there will be two additional events held on May 9th and 16th.
Some benefits of joining include paid training to meet state and district requirements, full-time benefits for a part-time job, investments matching, as well as medical, dental, and life insurance. The starting base salary for bus drivers in Harris County is $21 per hour.
“Across the nation there’s been a bus driver shortage and we’ve been affected as well. If the people don’t have any experience, we pay for all of their training; that training emphasizes safety,” Finney. “We want people that are interested in working with children, and there’s a whole range of people that this would appeal to – retirees, stay-at-home moms, retired educators, prior military people – there’s something for everybody.”
