COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Columbus Police Department honored a fellow comrade who lost her battle with breast cancer.
It is all part of the Faith and Blue Weekend. Local bike clubs also kicked their stands up for the Memorial Ride for late Corporal Deborah Whitley.
A couple of Whitley friends and family spoke to News Leader 9 about their relationship with Whitley including Assistant Chief of the Columbus Police Department Joyce Dentz.
“Deborah was a go-getter and you did not want to be around her the month of October. She always wanted to do something, she would start raising money on her own to help breast cancer victims and survivors.” Dentz continued, “A lot of things people didn’t know about Deborah.” “She was a police officer, but she was a human being. She was a mother, a grandmother, and she loved her community and so Deborah will always live in our hearts as a hard-working police officer and advocate for breast cancer awareness.”
Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley talked about how she was a unique person and always tried to help people.

“She was unique, she very seldom took no for an answer, and she was dynamic in what she believed in her heart. She was an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She was just a good person down to her soul,” said Jolley.
