U.S. Opens Door To Sending Troops To Iraq
US OPENS DOOR TO MORE TROOPS IN IRAQ
(CNN) – More U.S. troops could be headed to Iraq soon.
The Department of Defense says there’s a possibility of sending in more troops as part of a newly expanded NATO training mission to support Iraqi forces and ensure that ISIS does not rise again.
Defense officials spoke about the expanded mission on Thursday, saying the NATO mission would increase in size from 500 personnel to about 4,000.
There are currently 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq.
Former president Trump reduced the number to that level just days before president Biden took office.
