Some DoorDash Customers Pay More, Depends On City
SPENDING MORE ON DOORDASH AND UBEREATS? THIS FEE MAY BE WHY
(CNN) – DoorDash is charging some customers more than others.
Late last year, some DoorDash users started getting hit with a puzzling new fee just before checkout.
Turns out, the fees were happening in certain cities where local governments placed limits how much delivery platforms can charge restaurants.
To try to recoup those losses, DoorDash added new customer fees in those cities, which include Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia, Seattle and others.
Uber eats has had a similar fee in Portland and plans to add them in over a dozen markets over the next few weeks.
Restaurants struggling to make it through the pandemic are fighting back against the commissions, either by looking for alternatives, or with new laws.
