Facebook Board To Review Trump Suspension
FACEBOOK REFERS ITS DECISION TO INDEFINITELY SUSPEND FMR. PRES. TRUMP'S FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS TO ITS INDEPENDENT OVERSIGHT BOARD FOR REVIEW
(CNN) – Facebook has referred its decision to indefinitely suspend former president Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts to its independent oversight board for review.
Facebook suspended the accounts on January 7th, a day after Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol building.
A spokesman for the board says it gets 90 days to review the suspension decision but they expect to act sooner.
The board’s decision will be binding.
Until then, the accounts will remain suspended.
The board was formed in late 2020 and includes leaders from the fields of human rights, law, journalism and technology.
Facebook has also asked the board for policy recommendations for political leaders.
