Kroger Testing Out Smart Grocery Carts
KROGER TESTING SMART GROCERY CARTS THAT ELIMINATE CHECKOUT LINES
(CNN) – Kroger shoppers could bid goodbye to waiting in checkout lines; if the new shopping cart the grocery store chain has been testing takes off.
The cart nicknamed KroGo is being developed with the tech startup called Carper.
It’s equipped with card reader, which allows shoppers to pay at the cart itself, versus waiting at the register.
The cart also has a scale for items sold by weight.
As an added bonus, there’s also a screen that makes shopping suggestions and makes promotional offers.
The cart is being tested at a store in the Cincinnati area, where Kroger is based.
The company told WGN it will wait for feedback from shoppers and employees, before deciding on its next step.
