Judge Blocks Trump Administration Asylum Rule
FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP ADMIN ASYLUM RULE FROM TAKING EFFECT.
(CNN) – A federal judge on Friday, has blocked a new asylum rule that was scheduled to take effect Monday.
It’s one of the many rules the Trump administration has implemented that make it almost impossible for people to be granted asylum.
The rule gives extra scrutiny to an asylum seeker’s claim if they passed through another country first, but didn’t seek refuge or lived in the U.S. illegally for more than a year.
Not filing taxes or having a criminal conviction could also count against the claims.
The judge criticized the rule for only having a 30-day public comment period.
He also slammed acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf for pushing such regulations through.
Judge James Donato said, “The government keeps crashing the same car into a gate, hoping that someday it might break through.”
