Mads Mikkelsen Replacing Depp As Grindelwald
DANISH ACTOR MADS MIKKELSON WILL PICK UP FOR JOHNNY DEPP AFTER HE RESIGNED FROM THE LATEST "FANTASTIC BEASTS" FILM
(CNN) – The Fantastic Beasts movie franchise is marching on after losing one of its stars.
Danish actor Mads Mikkelson is replacing Johnny Depp to portray the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
Depp resigned from the third film earlier this month at Warner Brothers’ request.
That request came soon after a U.K. judge ruled against Depp’s claim accusing the British tabloid The Sun of libel for calling him a “wife beater.”
Mikkelson is best known for his roles in Casino Royale and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The latest Fantastic Beasts film is currently in production. and slated for release in the summer of 2022.
The Harry Potter spin-off has so far grossed nearly $1.5 billion across two movies.
