COVID: Mexico’s Guadalupe Basilica Closed During Festivities

MEXICO CITY GOVERNMENT AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ANNOUNCED THE BASILICA OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE WILL BE CLOSED FROM DECEMBER 10 TO 13

(CNN) – On December 12th, Catholics around the world celebrate our Lady of Guadalupe Day.

In Mexico, hundreds of parishioners usually head to Mexico City to celebrate it in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

But this year will be different, the Catholic Church of Mexico announced the basilica will be closed from December 10 to 13 to avoid spreading the coronavirus.

The church says activities will be virtual so parishioners can avoid crowds.
