1/3 Parents Say Holiday Meetups Worth COVID Risk
POLL: A THIRD OF PARENTS BELIEVE GATHERING FOR THANKSGIVING IS WORTH THE RISK OF CATCHING OR SPEADING COVID-19
(CNN) – As American families get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving this week.
A third of parents say gathering the family together for the holiday is worth the risk of getting COVID-19.
That’s according to a new national poll by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Nine out of 10 parents polled said grandparents were typically included in their Thanksgiving gathering.
Older adults can be at a higher-risk for severe infection.
Nearly 1,500 parents with at least one child age 12 or under were polled.
Over half said they felt it was “very important” that children were allowed to see extended family and share in family holiday traditions.
And they said their children have been more isolated since the pandemic began.
Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also urged Americans not to travel for Thanksgiving and to celebrate only with members of their own households.
Some doctors say it’s possible pandemic fatigue is setting in for many parents.
