Federal Inmate Executed For Rape, Murder
FEDERAL INMATE EXECUTED AFTER SUPREME COURT CLEARED THE WAY THURSDAY
(CNN) – A convicted murderer was executed in Indiana Thursday.
Orlando Hall was pronounced dead before midnight in Terre Haute.
The 49-year-old was sentenced to death for the 1994 kidnapping, rape and murder of 16-year-old Lisa Rene.
His attorneys argued that he did not receive a fair trial, in part because they claimed the prosecutor prohibited African Americans from serving as jurors.
His legal team asked for a stay of execution but the U.S. Supreme Court denied the request.
Hall is the eighth federal inmate to be executed by the federal government this year.
