DOJ Files Complaint Against Tiger King LLC.

(CNN) – The Department of Justice has filed a complaint against the couple on the hit reality series Tiger King citing recurring inhumane treatment and improper handling of animals.

Jeffrey and Lauren Lowe are accused of failing to provide basic veterinary care, safe living conditions, and appropriate food for the animals featured on Tiger King.

According to the complaint, the couple violated the endangered species act and the animal welfare act while operating the greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma.

The complaint also asks the court to require the defendants to relinquish certain animals to the U.S. and grant other relief as appropriate.

U.S.  Department of Agriculture officials say animal exhibitors must provide adequate care for their animals as provided for by Animal Welfare Act regulations.

Tiger King star Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joe Maldonado-Passage, is serving more than two decades in prison after being convicted in a murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin.
