The Columbus State University Athletics Department and the Department of Communication announced a historic partnership on Thursday, unveiling 88.5 FM WCUG as the official home of Cougar Athletics on the airwaves.
With the cooperative effort, any Cougar or Lady Cougar game broadcasted can be heard live on 88.5 FM WCUG in Columbus and the surrounding area. Also, Cougar fans can listen anywhere online through the TuneIn app.
In addition, Cougar Nation will hear the familiar voice of the award-winning and CSU Hall of Famer Scott Miller on WCUG. Miller will be entering his 45th season as the play-by-play voice of Cougar and Lady Cougar basketball.
“We are so pleased to team with the CSU Department of Communication,” said Todd Reeser, Director of Athletics. “With Scott Miller again calling all the Cougar action, I am confident this will be a winning combination for all involved while expanding our reach into the community and region.”
The agreement will give the Cougars their strongest radio footprint in decades. 88.5 FM WCUG’s signal reaches as far north as the LaGrange, Ga. area to the Georgia-Florida border.
“We are so happy to bring CSU Athletics home to 88.5 FM WCUG,” commented Dr. Danna Gibson, Professor & Chair of the Department of Communication. “I couldn’t thank everyone who made this possible enough, and I’m looking forward to our students having the opportunity to learn the profession of sports broadcasting and the possibilities it brings to them all.”
The partnership will begin with a bang as the first-ever game to be broadcasted live on 88.5 FM WCUG will be the Cougar’s showdown against the University of Georgia on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.
‘I’m so honored to be a part of the Cougar family,” added Miller. “This relationship I have with this University has been without a doubt life-changing. I can’t wait to be in my lucky spot calling games to Cougar fans across the country on 88.5 FM WCUG.”
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will begin the regular season on Wednesday, Jan. 6 inside the Lumpkin Center against Augusta University. To see the complete schedule, click here.
