Central Ready for Rematch Against Auburn in AHSAA Class 7A State Semifinals
RED DEVILS WON 2019 STATE SEMIFINAL OVER THE TIGERS; AUBURN WON THE 2020 REGULAR SEASON GAME
The Central Red Devils and Auburn Tigers are set to face off for the second time this season. This rivalry goes back farther than the tigers’ regular season 29-28 win over the red devils, which marked Auburn’s first win in the matchup since 2013.
Last season, Central handed Auburn a loss in the AHSAA 7A State Semifinals, and now the Tigers look to return the favor. Both head coaches say the first game might as well be wiped off the grid because new game plans and earning a ticket to the state championship make this meeting different.
“You’ve got to go prepare just like it’s anybody,” said Central Head Coach Patrick Nix “Yeah it’s a little bit of a rivalry game and yes we know each other, but you just got to prepare and get ready to play.”
“Central is always very athletic. They’re super explosive. They have guys that can score everytime they touch the ball,” said Auburn Head Coach Adam Winegarden. “They’re a dangerous team and one we really have to compete hard in to have a chance to win.”
Central and Auburn kickoff the State Semifinal game on Friday at 8 p.m. EST at Duck Samford Stadium.
