Scholar Athlete of the Week: Central’s Nate Carpenter

The Central Red Devils started the season (0-2), but now they sit second in the region punching their ticket back to playoffs for the seventh year in-a-row.

“Even though we’ve had some ups and downs I like that we keep fighting. We keep pushing through,” said Central senior defensive back Nate Carpenter. “I used to play receiver, but they moved me because I couldn’t catch. I didn’t think I was going to be starting, but they threw me out there.”

Carpenter earned a chance and excelled. In eight games of his senior season, he’s tallied 3 interceptions, 31 tackles, 1 pass break up and 1 forced fumble.

“Can play multiple things. Can get guys lined up. Sort of like having a coach on the field,” said Central Head Coach Patrick Nix. “Very athletic, very talented, but he’s also very smart.”

“They’ve been running this program like a college, and they still do it to this day,” said Carpenter. “It just gets everybody ready to play college.”

The senior holds a 4.16 GPA and is a member of the BETA Club and National Honor Society. Powering through classes wasn’t easy, so he has this advice.

“As you get something new, look at it. Even if it’s just for ten minutes, look at it and make sure you understand it because the subject is just going to keep building and building.”

Carpenter plans on majoring in Business with Finance in order to become a Forensic Accountant, all while playing college football.

“It’s kind of funny because I never thought this far. I just thought I was going to be a regular student, so I didn’t know I was going to be good.”

Congratulations to Nate Carpenter, our WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week.
