GOOGLE SAYS THOUSANDS OF EMAILS SENT IN SUSPECTED IRANIAN CAMPAIGN TARGETING ELECTION
(CNN) – Google suspects that Iran targeted U.S. voters by using email.
They say Gmail users were sent approximately 25,000 e-mails targeting the election.
The company believes the messages were a part of a suspected Iranian campaign to influence this year’s presidential race.
On Wednesday the Director of National Intelligence reported that Iran was caught posing as the far-right group; Proud Boys and sending intimidating e-mails to voters.
According to Google, 90% of the e-mails were stopped by spam filters.
Google says it is cooperating with the FBI as the agency investigates.
