898K File Unemployment Claims Last Week

JOBLESS CLAIMS HEAD HIGHER: 898,000 AMERICANS FILED FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

(CNN) – Jobless claims have gone up yet again.

According to the Department of Labor, Americans filed another 898,000 first-time jobless claims last week on a seasonally-adjusted basis.

That’s 53,000 more than the prior week.

Weekly jobless claims peaked in late March at 6.9 million.

The job market started to improve after that, but it slowed dramatically and went into reverse last week.

Before the pandemic, claims stood at around 200,000 per week.

Continued jobless claims did drop by about 1 .2 million down to 10 million.
