COVID: Model Projects 395,000 U.S. Deaths By February 1
INFLUENTIAL IHME MODEL PROJECTS 395,000 US CORONAVIRUS DEATHS BY FEBRUARY 1
(CNN) – A coronavirus projection model says the U.S. could see 395,000 deaths by February 1st.
The model comes from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine, or IHME.
Its projections also say COVID deaths would peak in mid-January, with 2,300 people dying daily.
If 95% of the country wore a mask, the model projects 79,000 fewer deaths.
So far, COVID-19 infections have killed close to 214,000 people.
If social distancing mandates are loosened, the model projects more than a half million dead in the United States by February.
