Columbus State University women’s golfers Selina Budde and Amber-Lee Svendsen began the season in style finishing in the top-five at the Lady Flames Regional Preview. The season-opening event took place at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tenn.
Budde and Svendsen grabbed second and third, respectively as the Lady Cougars were one of only two teams with two top-five performers.
Beginning her second season at CSU, Budde finished the day where she began, posting a 4-over 76 over the final 18 holes of the tournament. Teeing off from the 10th, the sophomore played her first nine holes just 1-over, including sinking birdies on the 10th and 15th. Budde also notched her third birdie of the round on the par-4 first to finish the event with a 9-over 225.
Svendsen made an instant impact in her first tournament as a Lady Cougar. The junior finished the 54-hole event by firing a 2-over 74 to place her in a tie for third. Svendsen shot an even-par across the first six holes, including two birdies on the 15th and 16th holes. Like Budde, she also shot 1-over through nine and finished the day strong with two birdies over her final four holes. Over Monday and Tuesday, Svendsen carded a 12-over 228.
Wrapping up her first tournament of the year, Ana Thorne shot an 87 to finish in a tie for 33rd with a two-day score of 254.
Columbus State will now prep for the spring season, which is scheduled to begin in early February.
