Scholar Athlete of the Week: Pierre Summers, Pacelli Vikings

The undefeated Pacelli Vikings have speed on their side. After week three of the season, senior running back Pierre Summers led the state of Georgia with 561 rushing yards. The first-year varsity athlete did not play football last season.

“I have vision. I’ve got speed,” said Summers. “I’m always maintaining my balance on and off the field.”

“He’s quick. You know I think he’s faster when somebody is chasing him, so far he hasn’t gotten caught.” said Pacelli Head Coach Dwight Jones. “We want him to keep running fast. Our offensive line has done a great job for him. I think he knows that. The key word he has taught us more than anything else is humble.”

The 5’10”, 170 pound back is focused. Summers runs a 4.6 second 40, holds a 3.5 GPA and loves math thanks to his grandma who teaches the subject at Northside High School. Summers plans to play college football and study finance and biblical theory, putting God first.

“I’m really grateful that he (God) put me in a position right now to shine,” said Summers. “If we glorify him then he’s got us.”

Summers is used to change. He was born in Ohio, raised in Hawaii and then moved to Georgia this year with his Army family. Pacelli football has been a blessing.

“I haven’t been focused enough because I’ve been moving a lot, but this year especially at this school it’s really God’s plan.”

Congratulations to Pierre Summers, our WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week.
