Scholar Athlete of the Week: Cooper Corey, Harris County

COREY'S JUNIOR SEASON STATS AFTER THREE GAMES: 354 PASSING YARDS, 156 RUSHING YARDS, 4 TOTAL TOUCHDOWNS

The Harris County Tigers are off to a hot (3-0) start, and the offense is led by dual-threat quarterback Cooper Corey.

“It’s actually been a pretty big improvement. My passing game has gotten a lot better. My footwork and my ability to read defenses,” said Corey. “My speed has increased a little bit. When you can keep it and see a window, you can keep it and just feel free.”

“You look at him and he just kind of looks like an average kid. You know he can run. He’s a strong kid,” said Harris County Head Coach Jamie Fox. “He makes good decisions for us and we’re glad we’ve got him on our side.”

So far this season, the junior has tallied 354 passing yards, 156 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns.

“I actually bought a throwing net, and so I go outside and throw the ball every now and then,” said Corey. “Sometimes I throw with my brother when he’s home.”

Corey’s work ethic also shows in the classroom. The three-sport athlete has a 4.0 GPA and loves math. In college he wants to study finance just like his brothers and play football, so establishing good study habits starts now.

“Once you get home after practice you know you feel tired, but you’ve just got to do your work. Always studying,” said Corey.

Congratulations to Cooper Corey, our WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week.
