Employment Scams Targeting College Students
BBB SCAM ALERT: EMPLOYMENT SCAMS TARGET COLLEGE STUDENTS
(CNN) – The Better Business Bureau says scammers are using the pandemic to target college students.
The organization says it’s received reports about employment scams going after students.
The scams begin with an email sent to a student’s official school email address.
In them, the scammer impersonates a professor or a university department with a job offer.
If accepted, the student receives a check and is told to send out some money orders or prepaid cards.
Eventually the bank alerts the student that the check is fake.
By then the scammer has their money and their personal information.
The BBB advises that students research any company offering them work before applying.
