Census 2020 Deadline Looms
EXPERTS WARN OF POSSIBLE LONG-LASTING EFFECTS OF POTENTIAL CENSUS UNDERCOUNT
(CNN) – Concerns are mounting about the possible consequences if there’s an under-count in the 2020 Census.
Time is running out’ the count is set to end September 30th.
Organizations nationwide are working to boost response rates before it’s too late.
There are also legal battles underway over a series of last-minute changes to the census.
The reason is that an under-count would be damaging on many levels.
It comes down to two big issues: government funding and political power.
The Census determines the number of representatives each state gets in Congress, as well as funding at both the federal and state levels.
That means money for schools, health care, and infrastructure.
The Census only happens every 10 years so if the count is wrong, the effects could last a decade or more.
