Google Changes Auto Suggestions Ahead Of Election
GOOGLE IS MAKING CHANGES TO ITS AUTOCOMPLETE SEARCH SUGGESTIONS AHEAD OF THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
(CNN) – Google is making some big changes to its search feature ahead of the November election.
The tech giant is changing its autocomplete feature, which predicts what users are searching for based on what they’ve typed so far.
Google says it’s removing suggestions that could be seen as endorsing or opposing political parties and candidates.
Autocomplete information about participation in the election will also be eliminated, such as voting methods requirements, or the status of voting locations.
Now, users will still be able to search for whatever they want and get those results.
The change will only stop certain phrases from auto-populating.
The move comes as Facebook, Twitter and other tech giants are trying to get a handle on misinformation ahead of the election.
