CDC Adds New Method To Report Death Rates
CDC IS NOW REPORTING CORONAVIRUS DEATH RATES BY AGE
(CNN) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is adding a new way to report the coronavirus death rates.
The CDC will now report the infection fatality ratio by age.
Using this factor, the CDC says less than one percent of people who contracted the virus have died from it; except in the case of patients over the age of 70.
The death rate for those with the virus who are 70 and older is more than five times that of the other age ranges.
It stands at nearly 5.5%.
The CDC report is based on estimates since the agency does not know the exact number of infections.
