R. Kelly Bail Appeal Denied
R. KELLY'S APPEAL TO BE RELEASED FROM FEDERAL CUSTODY ON BAIL HAS BEEN DENIED
(CNN) – R. Kelly’s appeal to be released from federal custody on bail has been denied.
The decision came Tuesday, after a three-judge-panel in New York listened to oral arguments Friday.
An attorney for R. Kelly had argued the singer hasn’t been able to prepare for his upcoming trial since prisons went into lockdown in March due to the pandemic.
Kelly’s attorneys claim he can’t read or write, so he needs in-person meetings with them.
But prosecutors argued Kelly is a danger to the community and a flight risk and the court agreed.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually abusing minors in several jurisdictions.
An attorney for Kelly said, of the ruling Tuesday, “we are again disappointed.”
