Bassey, McKissic and Crowder Earn Spots on NFL 53-Man Rosters
BASSEY JOINS THE BRONCOS, MCKISSIC FINDS HOME IN WASHINGTON AND CROWDER WILL PLAY IN THE BIG APPLE
Three local NFL players on the bubble found homes on their NFL 53-man rosters over the weekend. Essang Bassey joins the Denver Broncos, J.D. McKissic finds a home with The Washington Football team and Tae Crowder will play in the Big Apple for the New York Giants.
Central Red Devil alum, McKissic, will wear number 41 in Washington. He’s one of four backs on the depth chart, and this comes after Adrian Peterson was released by Washington and signed with the Lions. McKissic has a chance to compete for a lot of touches with Antonio Gibson, Peyton Barber and Bryce Love. Last season, the change-of-pace back rushed 38 times for 205 yards and caught 34 of 42 targets for 233 yards. McKissic enters his fifth season in the NFL.
University of Georgia and Harris County alum, Crowder, will wear number 37 with the Giants. The rookies was selected last in the NFL Draft, also known as the “Mr. Irrelevant” selection. Just a week ago, the linebacker was taking first-team reps in the Giants first scrimmage. Crowder joins an inside linebacker group including Blake Martinez, Devante Downs and T.J. Brunson. Crowder and Brunson, both rookie seventh-round picks could see the field on special teams.
Essang Bassey went undrafted in 2020, but that did not stop him from earning a spot with the Broncos. Denver has now had an undrafted rookie make their initial 53-man roster in 16 of the last 17 seasons. The defensive back stands at 5’10”, 190 pounds. His instincts and athleticism outweigh his size.
