Scholar Athlete of the Week: Eufaula’s Hess Horne
WEEK ONE STATS VERSUS CARROLL: 21-OF-32 COMPLETIONS, 338 YARDS AND 4 TOUCHDOWNS
Eufaula senior quarterback Hess Horne wasted no time displaying his skills on the football field. Week one he completed 21 of 32 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns against Carroll.
“There’s just nothing like running out in the stands, looking at the crowd,” said Horne. “The adrenaline rush you get. The feeling you get when you throw a touchdown. It’s awesome.”
“It’s very comforting. You lay your head on the pillow a little easier at night when you know you have a trigger puller that can spin it,” said Eufaula Head Coach Ed Rigby.
Horne earned the quarterback starting job in tenth grade, and since then has gained respect from his teammates on and off the field. The senior holds a 3.9 GPA, takes AP classes, and plays football and baseball.
“Me being in the classroom doing all of my studies hard makes other kids look up to me,” said Horne. “Makes them want to work hard.”
The senior’s favorite class is English, and he loves writing papers. That’s geared his passion to study law one day just like his dad.
“Learning how to write. Learning how to talk,” said Horne. “My daddy is the District Judge of Barbour County, so I mean it’s just following him.”
“He lays down the law to some defenses, I know that,” said Rigby.
Horne’s dedication to balance schoolwork and training has led to some pretty big wins on Friday night.
“We had a couple big games like that last year, but it’s a great to pick up from where we left off last year and continue moving forward,” said Horne.
Congratulations to Hess Horne, our WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week. If you know a hard-working junior or senior with a 3.5 GPA or higher, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
