‘To be the Man, You Have to Beat the Man’: Eufaula Head Coach Ed Rigby Prepares Tigers for Central

The Eufaula Tigers host the Central Red Devils for the first time since 2007. It’s going to be a tough matchup between Class 6A Eufaula and 7A Central, but the Tigers are prepared to face one of the best teams in the state of Alabama.

“To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man,” said Eufaula Head Coach Ed Rigby who quoted WWE legend Ric Flair.

The Tigers are coming off a huge 50-7 victory over Carroll in week one. On the other side of the ball, Central is eager for a win after falling short to Hoover 45-35 in what was one of the top duels in the state.

Rigby’s confidence in the Tigers effort is unwavering. Although Eufaula will be outsized by Central upfront, their speed will counter. Friday night will be a tough test, but the Tigers are prepared for the Red Devils.

“Iron sharpens iron,” said Rigby. “The bottom line is we’re playing one the top teams in Alabama. They’re going to move a speed faster than a lot of the teams we play. That forces us to elevate. If you’re a true competitor then you’re going to elevate your game so you can match it and beat it.”

Central and Eufaula square off at Tiger Stadium on Friday, August 28 at 7 p.m. CT. Seating capacity is limited to 50 percent and fans must wear masks.
