Sewing Machine Boom During Pandemic

SUDDEN SEWING BOOM HAS SEWING MACHINE SELLERS SCRAMBLING

Bangor, ME (WABI) – While many businesses are struggling to stay afloat amid the coronavirus pandemic; one industry is experiencing a sudden boom.

Sewing machine sellers are now scrambling to keep up with a surge in demand.

Self-isolation has inspired many to take up sewing, searching for a way to fill the time.

But, a more obvious trigger for the sewing boom is the demand for face masks; this after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new recommendations to wear them.

On Etsy, one of the largest online retailers for crafters; face masks have become the hottest new commodity.

Over 100,000 Etsy sellers have sold 29 million face masks worth nearly $3.5 million.
