More Stores Added To Nationwide Onion Recall

PUBLIX AND GIANT EAGLE STORES RECALL ONIONS CONECTED TO SALMONELLA OUTBREAK

(CNN) – Two more grocery store chains are joining a nationwide onion recall.

The Food and Drug Administration updated its guidance on Friday.

Now, Publix is recalling red onions sold in six states and Giant Eagle is recalling red, yellow and white onions sold in five states.

The onions are linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak.

At last check, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 600 cases in 43 states.

Last week a California-based company recalled all of its red, white, yellow and sweet yellow onions shipped to all 50 states and D.C.

The FDA says the products may have been contaminated.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and CDC are investigating.
