Fly High Quae, Candlelight Vigil Remembering Jaquarius Houston
HOUSTON GRADUATED FROM LANETT AS A FOUR-TIME AHSAA STATE CHAMPION; TWO-TIME IN FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL
COVID-19 placed social gatherings on hold, but an exception was made for one special young man. Lanett Class of 2020 graduate and four-time AHSAA State Champion, Jaquarius “Quae” Houston, passed away on Saturday, August 1.
The community gathered on the high school football practice field on Thursday to remember his life and legacy at a candlelight vigil. The selfless athlete worked hard on and off the field, being thankful for everything and everyone he met. A quiet leader that Football Head Coach Clifford Story will never forget.
“Quae was the perfect example of character, commitment and dedication. He was a God-fearing child. It was just something real special about his eyes. You could tell how Quae’s day was going to go just by looking into his eyes,” said Story. “He meant a lot to me. He was my child. I couldn’t ask to play a role in a kid like Quae’s life. He’s going to always be remembered and always have a special place in my heart.”
