Judge Denies Attempt To Stop Ice From Releasing Kids
FEDERAL JUDGE DENIES TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ATTEMPT TO STOP ORDER REQUIRING RELEASE OF CHILDREN IN IMMIGRATION CUSTODY
(CNN) – The Trump administration’s attempt to stop the release of children in federal immigration custody ordered for Monday has been denied.
Immigrant advocates have been critical of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE for holding the children indefinitely.
The detention facilities have been hot spots for coronavirus outbreaks and the judge says there’s no time for half-measures.
In a ruling on Saturday, a federal judge reinforced her earlier stand that it is imperative to transfer children out of the facilities.
Judge Dolly Gee says families should be released together or children can be released to a sponsor.
Attorneys who filed suit against the Trump administration are urging ICE to comply with the judge’s order.
