Tropics and Temperatures Continue to Heat Up

Another hot summer day in late July. Temperatures continue to run several degrees above normal this week and I don’t really see any relief through the weekend. Middle 90s are likely again today in our viewing area, with heat index values again in the triple digits. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into our area late this afternoon thru the early evening hours courtesy of the sea breeze front pushing through our area. As usual some of these storms could be strong to isolated severe. The tropics remain active, as  tropical depression eight moves through the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas and Louisiana; tropical storm Gonzalo churns toward Barbados and the Southern Windward Islands and will soon reach hurricane status.  Needless to say, we will have to keep a watch on potential Hurricane Gonzalo next week.
