Patriots Join One of the Toughest Regions in Georgia, 2-AAAAA

NORTHSIDE WON LAST FIVE CONSECUTIVE REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS; TOOK HOME 2017 STATE TITLE

The Northside Patriots softball team has been a powerhouse over the past few years. This coming fall they’ll be playing on a new field and in a new region 2-AAAAA. The region lineup is arguable one of the toughest in Georgia this season.

“They’re loaded with really good softball players. They’re loaded with players that you’ll be watching on TV one day playing the the SEC and ACC,” said Northside Head Coach Brandon Jenkins. “A lot of pitching, and it’s going to be a battle. There’s not going to be any gimme games like we’ve had in the past.”

The Patriots’ new region opponents include Starr’s Mill, Northgate, Whitewater, Griffin, McIntosh and their new friendly rivals Harris County.

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, Northside’s practices started a month behind every other team in their region.

“Starting a month behind did set us back. A lot of us have been working very hard with travel ball and private lessons,” said sophomore second baseman and shortstop Claire Cahalan. “We’ve been social distancing and getting the job done.”

The Patriots earned region champ honors and advanced to the GHSA state tournament the past five seasons. Northside also won the title in 2017. Last season they finished fourth overall. The Patriots graduated a few key seniors, but their deep roster can fill the gaps.

“I feel like our infield is really good,” said junior shortstop and second baseman Madison Cosgrove. “Our defense is something we’ve always been big about.”

“Our defense will be great this year,” said senior outfielder and pitcher Karlee Fuller. “We have a lot of good people coming up, and I think our hitting will also be great because we have a lot of power hitters left.”

“We’ve got a young group,” said Jenkins. “Very talented group, just a lot of coaching and teaching that we’ve got to accomplish here in the next four weeks.

The Patriots will throw out the first pitch of the season on Friday, August 7 at their home round-robin tournament against Marion County.
