US Sends Two Aircraft Carriers To South China Sea

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS, TWO US NAVY AIRCRAFT CARRIERS ARE IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA

(CNN) – Tensions are heating up in the South China Sea after two US Navy aircraft carriers entered the region for the first time in six years.

It’s Washington’s latest show of military might against China’s claims in the contested region.

The USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan conducted several exercises over the independence day weekend.

At the same time, China wrapped up their own drills near the disputed Paracel Islands, which are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan.

While US and China relations have deteriorated, Washington has increased its operations in the region.

Beijing responding, calling the US presence “destabilizing,” but said the two carriers are “nothing more than paper tigers” on its doorstep.
