Tokyo’s 1st Female Governor Reelected
TOKYO'S FIRST FEMALE GOVERNOR, YURIKO KOIKE, HAS BEEN REELECTED FOR A SECOND TERM
(CNN) – Tokyo’s first female governor, Yuriko Koike won reelection for a second term with a landslide victory, polls showed Sunday.
Koike said at a press conference that she was “very happy” for the support she received.
She also expressed she feels “a grave responsibility” ahead of her second term.
The reelected governor said the fight against COVID-19 is her immediate priority, as infection numbers in Tokyo have been soaring in the past week.
Koike said proper coronavirus safety measures would be crucial for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic games in summer 2021.
