NASCAR’S Jimmie Johnson Tests Positive For COVID

NASCAR DRIVER JIMMIE JOHNSON TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

(CNN) – Stock-car racing star Jimmie Johnson has tested positive for COVID-19.

Johnson received test results Friday afternoon, and will miss this Sunday’s race in Indianapolis.

The seven-time NASCAR cup series champion said in a statement that his “first priority is the health and safety of my loved ones and my teammates.”

But he acknowledged it will be hard to watch this weekend’s race from the sidelines.

Johnson’s race team, Hendrick Motorsports says the 44 year old driver isn’t feeling symptoms of the virus.

He was tested immediately after learning his wife had tested positive.

Johnson had previously announced 2020 will be his last year as a full-time driver.

Following CDC guidelines, NASCAR says Johnson must show two negative test results 24 hours apart with no symptoms before a return to action.

Johnson says up to now, he has never missed a cup series race.
