Northside’s Jacorey Johnson Signs with Defiance College

Earlier this week, the Northside Patriots celebrated the graduation and signing of another football player. Jacorey Johnson will take his talent to Defiance College in Ohio where he’ll battle for the roles of running back, linebacker and defensive lineman.

The National Honor Society scholar athlete will be remembered at Northside for his athleticism on the field, power on the wrestling mat, and his dedication off the field. Johnson’s football style is power, and that’s why Defiance College offered him a scholarship.

“The coaches were talking to me about playing both sides of the ball as well, and the main thing they said was my fire. They said I played with a chip on my shoulder and I try to keep that.”

The running back has stepped up in the community as a leader, feeding and warming the homeless, less fortunate, elderly and shut-in for the past 12 years through his non-profit Route 22.

Since Johnson will play up north, far from home, in Ohio, his family rewarded him for his hard work with a graduation parade of friends and family that ended with a new truck.

“It means the world. It lets me know that I have a strong support system. With me going so far away from home I think that’s pretty special.”

Johnson plans on wearing number 22 at Defiance College, just like his football idol, former NFL running back Emmitt Smith.
